Description:

Every time a Windows computer starts, the boot screen appears. Over the years it has changed many times, and some people feel nostalgic about the old Windows XP boot screen. In this video the presenter installs the Windows XP boot screen on Windows 10 and 11 and explains how it works. The video starts with an introduction (0:00) and a brief explanation of the boot process (0:05). Then it looks at the evolution of the Windows boot screen, from NTLDR to the modern Windows Boot Manager (0:22), and discusses what happened to the old boot screen (1:07). The presenter shows whether it is possible to change the logo in the current boot loader (1:26), and then demonstrates the steps to replace the boot screen (2:20). He copies ntoskrnl.exe (2:48), opens it with Resource Hacker (3:11), edits and replaces the resources (4:20), and uses BCDEdit to modify BOOTMGR (4:40). After rebooting the results are shown (6:53), followed by a discussion of the drawbacks and how to restore the original boot screen (8:06). The video concludes with a summary of the process (9:09).
