Super Spy Hunter, released by Sunsoft in 1992, is an original NES combat racing game that builds on the Spy Hunter concept with faster speeds, six distinct scenes, and boss battles against massive mechanical foes. The game features items that unlock special attacks and upgrades, and even lets the computer aim roof‑mounted cannons. At one point the car transforms into a plane, turning the gameplay into a vertical scrolling shooter. The presentation is a technical showcase, with fast‑scrolling roads, raster‑interrupt tricks that mimic 3‑D rotation, animated backdrops, and special effects such as the cable animation on the suspension bridge at 1:49 and a faked scaling effect when the car flies off the freeway at 14:14. Despite occasional slowdown, the action remains fast‑paced and challenging, with the soundtrack by Naoki Kodaka and Nobuyuki Hara complementing the gameplay.
