This video presents a day‑by‑day chronology of the two Chechen Wars on a map, including the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Chechen Civil War, and the interwar period. The First Chechen War began in 1994 when President Yeltsin sent Russian troops into Chechnya, capturing Grozny but ultimately failing to secure victory. The Second Chechen War started in 1999 after Chechen fighters invaded Dagestan; by 2000 Russia had regained control of all of Chechnya, and the conflict officially ended in 2009. During this period Russia had three presidents—Yeltsin, Putin, and Medvedev—who oversaw the wars.
