She was born into a position of obscurity and was likely to have ended up as nothing more than a footnote in history. Yet, her impressive life showed the power of perseverance. She ascended to become a Queen, restored the wealth and prestige of her country, kept her rivals at bay, and did what all the priors kings of Castile could not - she ended the Reconquista and drove Islam from Iberia.
