I have always been a woman who does things on her own, learning to be a self‑sufficient mother and mastering life’s challenges without relying on anyone. This independence has brought me joy, yet it has also made my life too solitary. I enjoy my own company and have no issue going to dinner, movies, bars, or taking getaways alone. After working many days straight, I took a few personal days and traveled to a remote part of the woods to stay in a dome with 80% windows and no walls. Surrounded by nature, I found it therapeutic and healing for my soul. I had a balcony, a hot tub, my books, and solitude. During this retreat, I ended my relationship with my boyfriend. I was at a rooftop restaurant/bar in town, watching Sleepy Hollow on a screen while families and kids were around. I left and immediately returned to my dome to watch a movie with him. I recorded my screen and location to prove I was alone, but it was not relaxing. I can handle being with someone who has trauma and help them work through it, but when the trauma creates deep insecurity that destroys my partner’s peace, it’s not okay. I realized I would never be able to disconnect without defending myself and my actions. We had a heart‑to‑heart conversation, and he told me that if we became more serious, he wouldn’t want me to continue my job and company, which requires traveling, and that taking personal days and being alone is not acceptable. I understand, but I’m fine with it.
