Rarely undertaken and dangerous high altitude trek in the Himalaya: Traill's Pass near Nanda Devi

A group of high‑altitude trekkers appear tiny and insignificant amid the giants of Nanda Kot and Nanda Devi, traversing massive crevasses and glaciers. The journey takes them across Traill’s Pass in Uttarakhand, offering stunning aerial views of Nanda Devi East and West and Longstaff Col. Pindari Kanda Traill’s Pass, at an elevation of 5,300 m (17,400 ft), lies between the peaks of Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot in the districts of Pithoragarh and Bageshwar, Uttarakhand, India. The pass sits at the terminus of the Pindari Glacier and connects the Pindari Valley to the Milam Valley (Lawan Gad). It is considered very difficult to cross; it was first reached in 1830 by G.W. Traill, the first British Deputy Commissioner of the Kumaon division, after whom it was named. In 1926, Hugh Ruttledge crossed it. Since 1830, more than ninety teams have attempted the pass, but as of October 2021 only twenty teams are known to have succeeded, the most recent being a group from Uttarakhand in October 2021.
