The restoration of the film was carried out by specialists from the Telecinema and Computer Graphics department of the Mosfilm film concern. The film is the reflections and thoughts of a man called the Author here. He himself does not appear in person, only his tired voice is heard. And on the screen, as if in a mirror, pictures of his past pass. At first, the memories seem disjointed: love for his mother, which the Author cannot express, a piercing feeling for his father, dissatisfaction with himself for the failed relationship with his son... Gradually it becomes clear - this is a man's account of himself, a difficult judgment of conscience, maybe even a sentence. The film occupies a special place in the work of Andrei Tarkovsky. In it, he captured his aging mother Maria Ivanovna Vishnyakova-Tarkovskaya, and the voice of his father, the poet Arseny Tarkovsky, reading his wonderful poems, is heard off-screen. This is a confession film, a revelation film...
